Communion is a special, quarterly event for our church. It affords us the opportunity to stop and purposefully reflect on the last hours of Jesus’ life, His ministry to the disciples and His death on the cross.
Our communion service is a little different from other Christian congregations whereby we undertake two very specific activities:
Foot-washing
Foot-washing was exampled multiple times throughout Jesus life. It’s primary purpose today is to enable us to humble ourselves before one another, seeking forgiveness of wrongs we may have made towards one another and show this humility through kneeling down and washing someone’s feet. This was traditionally only done by the ‘slave’ or ‘servant,’ yet Jesus exampled this in his own ministry in John 17
Bread & Wine
Many Christian denominations partake in these two significant emblems representing the body (bread) and blood (wine) of Jesus. Some choose to do it every week, others once a year, for us we do this every 3 months. We take our example again from Jesus in Luke 22
This may be all new to you, but there is no pressure to participate, you’re welcome to join us and observe or, if you’re comfortable and have come to know Jesus as your personal saviour, you’d be welcome to join with us as well.
